Northern Albania road trip
Planning a trip north from Tirana, towards Shkodër and the mountains.
North of Tirana the country changes quickly. Shkodër is the natural base, and from there the roads climb.

Conditions vary by season and by road, and they change from year to year. Ask locally before committing to a mountain section, and give yourself more time than the distance suggests.
What to rent
- For the main roads to and around Shkodër, any car in the fleet is fine.
- Riders heading further into the mountains usually take the CRF300L Rally or the Africa Twin.
- Talk to us about where you are actually going — we will tell you honestly if something is not the right vehicle for it.
Crossing a border needs prior approval. Tell us in advance if the plan includes Montenegro or Kosovo.
